Delhi Matar Paneer Curry 

Story about the dish...

Matar means peas, Paneer is an Indian cheese.

When I was 13, my auntie from Delhi came to visit and brought us this curry to try. Having never eaten paneer before, I immediately fell in love with it. I found the texture and feel of the soft paneer cheese combined with the popping of the sweet peas in every mouthful to be irresistible. I asked my auntie to show me how to make it. I watched and tasted at every stage and treasured every moment. For me, this dish brings back wonderful memories of being a young cook, experimenting and trying out different flavour combinations and learning new cooking techniques. The chief taster in my household Richard (aka my husband) loves the firm, yet moist texture of the cheese. I serve this dish with plain rice and a spoonful of natural yoghurt.
